New Outlook From An Ancient City
The travel trade are not taking advantage of the wide range of
activities in the Chiang Mai area according to Wim Fagel, General Manager
of the Amari Rincome Hotel. Instead of always being on the look-out for
new destinations, he says, perhaps the challenge should be to
imaginatively explore the full potential of those that are already
established.
“To many, Chiang Mai is no more than the night market, Doi Suthep and
perhaps an elephant ride. Most visitors come to the area for only two days
where in reality a four-day stay would not cover all there is to see and
do in Chiang Mai.”
Accepting the challenge himself, Mr. Fagel has put together a full menu
of activities in the area. “I have a programme of 50 activities to offer
our guests which encourages them to really explore the region. We have
collected information on everything from road safaris and river rafting to
Thai cooking classes, fruit-carving and Hilltribe crafts.”
Combining the Amari Rincome Hotel with Angkhang Nature Resort has
opened up a whole new range of possibilities for the incentive market. We
are looking at a number of exciting possibilities including car rallies,
says Mr. Fagel.
